"Hey," Peter said as he sat down.

"Thought you had a date," Kermit replied.

Peter ordered a beer before replying with a shrug, "I did, but it didn't work out."

"Any particular reason?"

"We just didn't click. She's beautiful and smart and all that, but... I was checking my watch every few minutes and all I could think of was... Well, it wasn't of her."

"That's too bad."

"Yeah."

The two sat in silence for awhile, content to just drink their beers. "So," Peter asked, breaking the silence, "What about you? Why aren't you on a date?"

Kermit grinned. "Other than the fact that I'm a computer nerd cop?"

Peter snorted in reply. "Yeah, other than that."

"The only person I want isn't available."

"Married? In a serious relationship?"

"No. They're just not interested in my type."

"Have you even asked?"

"No. Why should I? It would be pointless," Kermit replied with a shrug.

"Kermit! How will you ever really know if you don't ask?"

Kermit looked over his sunglasses at Peter. "I know." He then pushed the frames back up the bridge of his nose.

"Is it anyone I know?"

"You've never met them."

"Come on. Give me some particulars."

"Why are you so interested?"

Peter paused a moment, then shrugged. "Don't know. I'm just curious."

"Brown hair, hazel eyes."

"Give me more information than that! Pretty, so-so..."

"Gorgeous," Kermit replied, staring at the mirror behind the bar.

"Gorgeous huh? Height? Distinguishing characteristics?"

"This isn't a line up," Kermit replied coldly before getting up and walking out of the bar.

Peter hurriedly followed his friend out to the parking lot. "Kermit, wait! I'm sorry. I was just trying to cheer you up."

"You failed miserably. Besides, I don't need cheering up."

"Yes you do. People who don't know you that well may not notice, but I do."

Kermit snorted. "Right. See you tomorrow."

"Wait... Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm fine Peter, just fine," Kermit replied before getting into his car and driving away.

Peter watched Kermit leave, a thoughtful look on the younger man's face.
