OK... here's the sequel to More Than Darkness and Shinigami Desu. Again, I'm basically going to write for a bit, then post, like I did with More Than Darkness.

Archiving: If you have prior permission, go for it. All others, please ask.

Pairings: For series, it's 3x4/4x3, maybe 1x2/2x1 in future.

This, and the rest of the arc, is a slight crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I use concepts from the Buffy world, but (so far) no characters. You really don't need to know about the Buffy-verse, since I'm pretty sure I'm explaining it as I go.

Disclaimers: Gundam Wing belongs to Bandai, Sunrise, et al. Buffy the Vampire Slayer concepts belong to 20th Century Fox and Joss. No money made, all for fun.

Rating: R to be on the safe side. Right now, it's PG at best.

Notes: The idea for this came to me right before I went to sleep one night, and wouldn't let me go.

Many, many thanks to the ultimate title creator, my friend Ith. She can find a title for any story. I don't know what I'd do without her! Also... comet! Look! A story part! So, you can stop pestering me now... right? <g>

A Darker Dawn
by Ninjababe
part 1

Folding his arms, Duo glared at the blonde in front of him. "Look, I don't like this anymore than you do, but we have no choice. Until after the conference, we're going to have to stick together."

"And why can't Heero be the one?"

"Because, he was already assigned a mission when this came up. It was unavoidable." Duo paused and sighed before continuing. "I know we'd both be happier with Heero here instead of me, but can we please just try to be civil until the conference is over?"

"Fine," the blonde sniffed before turning back to the paperwork piled on the desk.

"Thank you, Relena," the braided pilot replied with another sigh. He wandered over to the picture window and took in the view, which was a hillside leading down to a forest. "First, we'll have to move you to a different location."

"I like this office!"

"Relena, I can see three different points that can be used as sniper hideouts, and that was only at a glance. This office is too visible."

Relena pursed her lips. "So, I'm to be put in the basement, with no windows and only one door?"

"If you have one, yes. That would be perfect."

"I don't believe this! I can't work towards a lasting peace while working in a cubby hole below ground!" the blonde exclaimed as she stood from her chair.

Duo held up a hand for silence as he stared off into space, his eyes unfocused.

"Are you even listening to me, Maxwell?"

Duo turned and glared at the young woman. "Shut up," he replied, his voice cold and emotionless. Turning back towards the spot he had stared at before Relena's interruption, his eyes again went unfocussed.

//Men are entering the building.//

'How do you know that?' Duo asked the mental whisper.

//They just killed me.//

//And me.//

//And me.//

//And me.//

//And me.//

'Enough!' Duo thought loudly to stop the chorus of dead voices. 'What can you tell me?'

//There are four of them. I didn't see them coming until it was too late.//

//I saw one of them change. Not human.//

'What did they look like?'

//Short spikes appeared from their faces where the cheekbones are. They're eyes are black, no whites.//

'Good, now quiet,' Duo ordered before refocusing on the outside world.

Relena was in the middle of a tirade. "And, another thing, you may be a Gundam pilot, but that doesn't give you the right..."

"We're leaving," Duo interrupted, grabbing Relena by the arm and forcefully dragged her towards the door. After opening the door, he pulled his gun with his free hand and continued past the antechamber and paused at the hall door.

"How dare you!" the young woman sputtered.

After looking both ways, Duo turned and glared at Relena, his face a mere inch away from Relena's nose. "Listen to me, because I'll only say this once. If you want to live, You will do what I say, when I say. If not, say so now, and I'll leave."

End notes: Not what y'all were expecting, ne? <weg> I couldn't resist putting the two of them together. I know, I'm bad. Punish me? Like... by... writing stories and forcing me to read them so my mailbox isn't highlighted anymore!

Oh, I can't believe I typed that. I really need to cut back on the expresso drinks...

Ah, I'll leave it there. Why not. I'm crazy, I admit it.

Shutting up now.
