Ninjababe's Thoughts on Gundam Wing as she watches the American Dub

This is basically me typing in what I was thinking while watching the episodes.

Okay... I started doing this with episode 30... So, I have to go back and watch the series over again (Oh woe is me!) to get the other episodes...

Well, they started the series over again on Cartoon Network, so I'll be adding more episode thoughts as I watch them.

Also, I skipped a few episodes here and there...

Ep 1. The Shooting Star She Saw

Either they get better at the whole repeating sentences thing later in the series, or I just don't notice it in later episodes. I'm really noticing them giving all information twice here.

"He's made it all the way to Earth, he's not going to commit suicide before setting foot on it." – Zechs

Well... I don't know about that... I mean, he is talking about Heero here...

"It moved" – 'gundam meat' Aries pilot

Well... Duh! It's a mobile suit, you twits... You really think it's going to just suspend itself in mid-air and allow you to plummel it?!?

OK... This is Heero's first battle against OZ, he destroys the enemy, he laughs insanely. Tension release? Or did they want Heero to look slightly insane then change their minds later?

I want Zechs' boots.

"That mobile suit may be undamaged, but that reckless pilot couldn't have survived." – Zechs

Oh, how they will wish that was true...

Hey, different music on the little splash screen shown before the episode comes back from commercial.

"General Septim is expecting you." – OZ

I know Septim is going with the whole number theme... but it doesn’t sound right <g> It sounds like some sort of disease or something...

And, here's the first time we see Relena talk to herself and to people who aren't there. Have a valium, dear. Or two. Or three. Or twenty. <ahem>

Trieze is worried about the reactions to the destruction of 3 mobile suits now... wait till later in the series where dozens, even hundreds of them get destroyed every battle. KA-BOOOOOOM!!

You know, having spoilers for the series brings a whole new meaning to Trieze telling Zechs not to antagonize the Alliance because it's a crucial point... <eg> Operation Daybreak anyone?

And, Relena's talking to people who aren't there again! Telling Heero her name like he can hear her.

"So, there are four of them?"
"Five, if you count the one we shot down."
"Five of them? There are five Gundams?" – Zechs and a lackey of his.

Okay... how many Gundams are there again? <blink blink>

"My name is Heero Yuy, it's a pleasure." – Heero introducing himself to the class.

<waves back> HI, HEERO!

So, in the eyes of her fanclub, anything Relena does is worthy of a round of applause.

You know, thinking about it, that can't be a very deep relationship base... I mean, a bunch of girls who fawn over you and think everything you do is just super! I'm feeling slightly sad Relena... OK... over now!

        "I'll kill you." – Heero

Oh, Heero... if only that were true...

Ep 2. The Gundam Deathscythe

So, I'm wondering how many episodes they start out with the narrator giving the background on the series... "The year is After Colony 195... yadda yadda yadda." Talk about filler space!

Hey! A member of Relena's fan club has Selphie's (From Final Fantasy 8) hairdo!

So, Zech's underwater carrier is large enough to have a helicopter pad on it? I mean, that's what I think of when I see a circle with a capital 'H' in it...

So, Heero's an expert horseman as well... Does he do anything badly?

He's hacking in with one hand? I find that a little off somehow... It just doesn't seem plausible to do something like that without both hands on the keyboard.

Awww... Relena's fanclub trying to cheer her up. <pats fanclub on head and gives them poisoned bickies>

"That boy's so secretive... I know his secret... That's why... I know his secret... That's

why he's going to kill me!" – Relena

Ooooo! You promise?!

"We're under attack, but I can't see the enemy anywhere!" – 'gundam bait' pilot

You never see death coming, do you? <g>

"Anyone who sees me has a date with his maker." – Duo

Cute... But I like the original version better... I think it's something like... "Anyone who sees me has a date with Shinigami."

"That's a lie. Heero was in one of them. Does that make Heero... Is he a little prince?" –

Relena talking about the news program saying that the five 'meteorites' hitting the ground not being manned spacecraft.

Ummmmm.... HUH?!? A) How did she know Heero was one of the 'meteorites'? B) Where does she get off calling him a 'little prince'? More fodder for the 'Relena is delusional' camp?

Different music from rest of series when we come back from commercial again.

I love the bit with Trowa calming the lion when he first joins the circus.

OK... this brings a point up I've been wondering about... How the hell do the pilots cart around their Gundams without being noticed? Those things are huge!

OK... 4 'beautiful's in 3 sentences? Quatre needs a new adjective!

And, Sandrock covered with flamingos! ROTFL!

"Heero, what are you planning to do? Who are you planning to kill?" – Relena

You, hopefully. </snark> If you readers haven't guessed yet, I don't really like that girl.

So, in the beginning, Deathscythe needed flares to 'sneak' up on people... Need to work on that cloaking device <g>

You know, the comment one pilot makes about thermal energy weapons not being able to work underwater makes you wonder about what the hell that weapon is made of...

Why do they attack the 'head' of the gundam? I know it's a normal human reaction, but if they're going for the pilot, shouldn't they be going for the chest area where the pilot is? Then again, they don't know anything about the Gundams... Never mind!

The turn off for the self-detonate switch on Gundam Wing is a bit too easy, I think...

Ah, the first meeting between Heero and Duo... Ah, the greatest friendships start off on such rocky ground <eg>

"Finally, everything is finished. Mission complete." – Heero

So... H-man, you're saying your whole purpose on Earth was to bring the Gundam in to be destroyed and kill yourself? Ummm... no!

"There's a jinx that once you see a Gundam, you will not come out alive." – Zechs

Well, Zechs-baby, considering the number of people in this series that see a Gundam and survive, I guess the jinx is broken, eh?

Ep 3. Five Gundams Confirmed

And, we have filler space again. Narrator has a nice voice though...

Trieze has a major fetish about roses.

I like the symbolism in this scene with Trieze waiting to take a shot while discussing the situation with Zechs. He quietly and patiently waits, ignoring the passing rabbit targets until the real prize appears, a live bird. Nice symbolism for the upcoming events Trieze puts into action.

"Are the enemy's mobile suits really that dangerous?"
"We've lost 5 of our best suits already. And that's just be beginning." – misc OZ officer and Zechs

You bet your sweet bippy! Massive destruction is on the way!

OK... Heero's a suspected spy... I can see them strapping him down, but not treating his wounds? Sally Po, bad doctor! No bicky! That right there just doesn’t jibe with her refusing to give him truth serum because it could be harmful to his young body. Oh, and bleeding to death won't hurt him at all. </sarcasm>

"We can hope they fight well, that's about all we can do." – Zechs

Well... you could warn the base there's a Gundam coming! Jeez

OK... the technician is reading a newspaper while watching the monitors of a spy?!? Bad, bad, bad! Get some competent help!

Hehehehehehe... Love how Duo shows up and tells Heero to be quiet with the finger over his mouth. Then, the chatterbox he is, he keeps talking even after Heero stops reading his lips.

The technician calls Sally 'Major Sally'. No no no no no! You don't do that in the military! It's Major Po!

"Damn, I'm going to have nightmares over this one!" – Duo

I like that quote.

OK... Relena's voice called him back from the 'brink'... Personal theory? He suddenly remembered he had to kill the little moppet!

OK... commercial break... And, I just have to say that 'Baby Got Back' by Sir Mix-A-Lot is considered a rap classic? Huh... That's enough talk about that... Back to GW.

Hey! The music for the return from commercial break is normal! Woo!

And, we resume the episode with another false news report...

Narrator telling about specials... Ooo! Trieze-sama can float in mid air! <g>

I want *those* boots Zechs and Trieze have...

And, we get to watch Lt. Walker fawn over Zechs.

"What idiot would challenge this level of security?" – Admiral (General?) Bonaparte

Oh... I don't know... maybe a... what are they called? Oh yeah, a Gundam?!

Trowa giving the dying OZ pilots a strategy lesson. <snicker>

And, incident #1 where Trowa runs out of bullets. He's like the *only* anime character to run out of bullets.

Which reminds me, why isn't Heavyarms using energy 'bullets' like everyone else?

Quatre said crap? Did Quatre say crap? Woah!

And, it's Gundam wrestling. Wooo! <gets out the popcorn and starts to munch>

Now, from afar, when they've stopped, it looks like they're dancing.

<Shudder> I always cringe in sympathetic pain when Heero resets his bone.

Ep 4: The Victorian Nightmare

And, there goes the narrator again, as we watch the same stock footage from the last intros... la la la la...

So, we American's don't know what meteorites are, eh? We have to call them shooting stars... Then again, I do like that <g> (Talking about a running theme... first episode in Japanese version is 'The Meteorite She Saw', English, it's 'shooting star', they keep saying shooting stars when they talk about the gundams arriving on earth, etc)

Man, can Noin get any closer to the moniter when she's talking to talk to Noin.

"Zechs has been one year and twenty-two days." – Noin

Man, has she got it bad for Zechs...

And a picture frame full of photos of Zechs... I'd say it's stalking, but... oh, all right... it's almost stalking.

I just can't get Zechs in his mask... I mean, I just keep trying to superimpose his features over them.

Oooo... strobe lights... Kinda funky not to hear music to go with it.

Owwie! That fall Wufei does off the bike had to hurt.

Noin may be a good instructor, but I think she's too naïve... She knew the boy was a Gundam pilot, but because she saw him as a kid, she ordered her troops not to fire the space laser. She could have cut the Gundam strength by a fifth...

I've been wondering... How did Wufei get to do all that at the Victoria Base? They knew he was coming, they had extra soldiers watching, yet he was able to set all those charges and sneak out without detection until Noin said to put on the heat sensors (Which should have been monitoring in the first place). Then again, it shows they really are good!

The guy trying to get the mobile suits moved off the base really should have listened to Zechs...

"You saw I was a kid and you underestimated me!"– Wufei

OK, I agree with him on that, but Wu-kun, we're going to have a little talk about your views on women!

"Why don't you give up and stop pretending to be human?" – Duo

I love the banter in this scene <g>.

"Heeero! I'm right over here so come and kill me!" – Relena

<pushes bazooka into position and aims> Don't worry He-kun, I'll do it for you! <beam>

Trieze-sama... bath... skin... drool...

Lady Une has cat pupils!

Man, for a moment there, it looked like Duo was wearing Heero's tank top.

There's that insane chuckle of Heero's again... Note to self, when I hear that chuckle from Heero, run like hell!

<slaps hand over mouth> The position of Zech's pistol holster as he knelt in front of Noin's mobile suit. ROTFL! (It's right between his legs).

And, since when did dingoes, wild dogs, hyenas whatever canine-type animal they are, run away when a human screams at them? And run whimpering?

Ep 5: Relena's Secret

Another narrator telling the same story and showing the same filler pictures... this is getting boring!

So... Relena's secret? She's a transvestite? She's a machoist? She likes to make dogs out of toothpicks?

"Relena's on the colony at the very moment. They [stars] should be sparkling much  brighter now." –
        Relena's fanclub member

Man, talk about hero worship!!!

I like the idea they have for colonies... the big ring is cool.

Lady Une is reminding me of Velma from Scooby Doo! Make <twitch> it <twitch> stop! <twitch twitch>

And, Une should pitch for the League with that arm!

"Go get the girl and kill her if she resists." – Lady Une

Umm... shouldn't she be ordering Relena's death since she saw the bombing?

"I have a confession for you, Relena. I am not your biological father." – Minister Darlian

<raspy breath> I am your uncle's sister's half-brother's daughter's roommate's butler.

Everyone wave bye-bye to Trowa! Trowa go bye-bye!

        "What if he attacks?"
"I almost wish he would. At least I'd be able to see him again." – Rashid and Quatre

<starry eyed look> Aw, wove, twue wove...

Okay, Dr J's opening and closing of his claw is just too freaky. Squeak, squeak, squeak.

"Heero is only ordered to attack the dangerous, evil people who are responsible for  wars." – Dr J

Ummm... dude... isn't that a bit of a broad mission? He'd be fighting for the rest of his life! Then again... this is Heero we're talking about... never minde!

OZ was responsible for an assassination 20 years ago? I thought Trieze started OZ? Or did I miss something? <scratches head>

"Stay away from him if you value your life." – Dr J

She obviously doesn't, since she still chases after Heero. Maybe that's her secret!! She has a death wish, and wants to die violently! (I can take care of that!)

<ahem> Man, I'm getting quite poisonous against the little moppet... Maybe I should tone it down...

Ep 30. The Reunion with Relena

Okay, I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Dorothy's eyebrows are freaky!

I've noticed I don't have really much to say lately... mostly, it's been eye candy all the way <g>

Oh, that look in Heero's eyes when he was blowing up troops while defending the civilian evacuation. Oooo, creepy!

Side note: I really like the montage commercials Cartoon Network does... this one is about being technologically superior. Very nicely done... especially the 'control the children of earth' and showing the toonami guy on the screen connected to the kids brain. The 'space is the place' one is outstanding... They do a really great job.

ARGH! My remote battery is missing! It's the end! The end is nigh!

<Whew!> Found it! Now, to tape them back into place...

And, the commercial is over!

Is it just me, or having Relena teaching just a bit freaky? (I personally think she's a hypocrite whiner. She teaches total pacifism, yet tries to kill her adopted father's killer. And, she didn't start teaching it until after she figured out who her family was.)

OK, Dorothy dyes her hair. She has too... She has brown eyebrows and blonde hair...

"You mustn't fear death, because death is merely an end result given at birth." -- Dorothy.
Nice!

You'd think someone would think it strange that Quatre, just a passerby, knows all the different mobile suit models by sight... Especially the new ones?

Relena considers Dorothy a friend, yet they barely know each other.

Ooo! Relena went into stalker mode! One mention of Heero's name and off she goes! Okay, be real, Ninja... She didn't go into stalker mode, but she did get over excited.

And it's Noin to the rescue! Da da dum!

Wooo! Major explosions! Yeah! BOOM!

<ahem>

Gah! She leans over the end of the airplane step railing and stares at Heero with her chin in her hand. Gah...

(Have we guessed yet I don't really like Relena?)

Ep 31: The Glass Kingdom

Ooo... ominous title... Ewww... a pink limo!

<snicker> The girls's conversation as Heero and Quatre enter the school for the first time.

Woah, Dorothy is one freaky lady in the scene when she's fencing with Heero... It's like she's stalking Heero too!

Ah, he's such a loveable psychopath! Heero that is... Just wanders down to where his mobile suit is being held and grabs it and it looks like Noin's as well... Doesn't care about the fact that he's now leaving the Cinq kingdom defenseless...

Oh man... I think I may need help... I'm getting fan fiction ideas for the toonami android now! <glares at The Mind>

Uh oh... looks like the Romefeller Foundation is going to destroy the Cinq kingdom.

Oh yeah, Relena, like you, a teenager, can stop the battle herself...

Okay... Quatre needs help...

"Heero's already headed out. I'm sure he's doing what's in the best interest of the Cinq kingdom" -- Quatre

Well... okay, maybe not... He did run to the Treize faction members.

I love how everyone is so shocked when they meet a gundam pilot. "He's just a kid." Didn't they send out bulletins or something about them?

Dorothy gets excited about people dying... Why do I have the feeling she's a sadist at heart. ARGH! I now have the image in my head of her in leather with a whip! <whimper> Make it stop! Make it stop!

Oooo! I like the ruse they used to get the Gundam into the battle... Hiding it in a mobile suit carrier.

So... Relena ignores Noin's advice and only agrees because Heero agrees... Stalker syndrome? Or does she really think a psychopathic terrorist is a better advice giver than an adult with years of battle experience?

YES! Finally! The next episode has Duo! Come on, I want it to be tomorrow all ready!

Ep. 32: The God of Death Meets ZERO

Okay... the way Deathscythe shows up is so cool! And, I even like the music...

"The God of Death is back from Hell!" -- Duo
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Nice upgrades on that suit!

So, an OZ soldier has Wing ZERO... Uh oh... I see problems in the future... Oh, never mind... it go boom.

Oh... it was a simulation... Damn.

And he's gunning for Duo! Bad man, no bickie!

I'm glad Duo's gotten help.... and that not all of the colonists are sheep... Baaaaaaaa!

Kick that technical officers lily white bootie, Duo!

Ooooo! Duo gets to play with ZERO <weg>. This ought to be interesting.

Hmmm... I'm starting to wonder how long the ZERO hallucination last in real time... A split second?

"I can see all your moves. I can even see your death!"
"In your dreams!" -- Trent and Duo
Wooo! Yeah! Tell him!

Trent, hon, you don't have the brain power to handle ZERO. Bu-bye!

"It's too much for a human to handle. If anyone did it, he'd be superior to the entire human race." -- Duo
Forshadowing, much, eh?

Ep. 33

"No human can defeat a mobile doll!"
Well, obviously, someone can, since Zechs is kicking ass and taking bank account numbers!

I kinda like the fact that Cinq kingdom formal wear is the same for men and women.

Ooo! Heero made a promise... Granted, it was to tell Relena he wouldn't leave until telling her, but I thought he didn't make promises? <scratches head> Or... Is that just what I remember from fanfic?

Of course, Heero would be going off to destroy all those mobile dolls by himself... And, he's not wearing his green tanktop! <gasp>

So, Zechs is going to fight the mobile dolls in space, and Heero is going to fight them on Earth... Interesting.

I still can't wrap my head around the power Relena wields... I mean, she's what... 15? 16? Yet, she's in control of one of the most influential kingdoms in the world, not even a regent!

I'll say it again, Dorothy is freaky... Have to wonder what happened in her life to give her a mentality like that...

Watching Heero going to Luxembourg... I have the image of him as Mighty Mouse... Him in a yellow cape singing "Here I come to save the day!" Bwahahahahaha!

OK... when Relena goes "Fight... to live... in peace." And "We will... achieve... peace one... day.", It sounded like she was drugged.

Hey! Trieze is telling Heero to keep fighting! Go Trieze!

This is getting so confusing... who the hell's the enemy?!?

Hey! There was no Duo, Wufei, or Trowa! <stomps foot>

Ep. 34: And Its Name is Epyon

"You pilots, you mustn't die yet." -- Trieze
No, because Trieze-sama wants the pleasure of turning you into pate!

So, why does Heero keep seeing Relena right before he's about to die? Is he focusing on the most annoying thing in his life for some reason? Maybe he's focussing on her because, since he hasn’t killed her yet, he can't die, since he hasn't completed that mission. Yeah! That's it! (And, since I now how the series ends, that means he'll be living for a very long, long time.)

Wow, Trieze really knows how to get followers... they all did suicide attacks to protect him. I bet in the original, they said something like 'Long live Trieze-sama!' and not 'Long live Trieze <however you spell his last name>', but hey, I could be wrong.

Hmm... an OZ soldier asking a gundam pilot to protect Trieze...

OK... seeing Heero walking through a dark warehouse in a formal-type suit and waving a gun makes me think of James Bond <hums the theme song>.

So... why is Heero's prints and voice in the ident computer? And how did Trieze get said prints and voice?

I welcome you with my heart, dear messenger of peace. -- Trieze
Trieze... what have you been smoking?! And where I can get some?

Pull the trigger! Do it, you suicidal, homicidal maniac! You know you want to!

Those who stand before me with the intention of killing me, those are my enemies. -- Heero
Nice

In my opinion, Relena Peacecraft is a much stronger person than you. -- Trieze to Heero
Oooo! Drugs! Give that boy a drug test, and  now!

That glowy/hologramish thing with Heero's eyes when Epyon takes over is cool! Come one H! You can beat it!

Ep. 35: The Return of Wufei

Ep. : Go Forth Gundam Team

The title makes me think of the original Batman series theme song for some bizarre reason.

Ah, here comes Relena, try to talk some sense into a brother she doesn't really know...

Even Dorothy's voice is freaky... It's all breathy... just freaky.

So... who's side is Dorothy on? Or is she just out there to keep the war going?

Oooo... So, Zero's sentient? Freaky...

Huh... I've been using freaky a lot in this series.

Okay... More as I watch more episodes!
