A Random Rambling About My Gundam Wing Pictures Collection

Just a long winded ramble about what I personally do with all the GW pictures I can't seem to stop grabbing off the internet.

I just finished organizing the Gundam Wing pictures I've grabbed off the internet.

All 318 of them.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Ninjababe has 318 pictures of Gundam Wing on her hard drive. They're doing nothing but sitting on her hard drive.

All are divided by the people in them. All pictures of Duo (I have 94) are in their own separate zip file ( The Duo and Heero picture zip file 5.07 MB. Can you tell I'm a 1+2/2+1 fan?), and all the pictures of Trowa and Quatre are in their own separate zip file, to name just some of them. I put each pilot in their own file, and then another file for Duo and Heero, and file for Trowa and Quatre. Everything else either goes in the group file or the other file.

Oh, that's anal you say? You ain't heard anything yet! Just wait...

I renamed each picture so I don't have to keep changing names when I add more pictures in the future. So, all the Heero pictures are h001.jpg, h002.jpg, h003.jpg, etc.

And, because of the brilliance that is the 'Print Screen' button, I was able to hit the 'Browse' in Paint Shop Pro, then cut and paste that to make an index image for every file. So, I can find the picture I may be looking for after a quick glance.

Then, there's my spreadsheet...

I have a spreadsheet that has: The file name, a brief description of a picture (An example: h046.jpg is 'Heero posing sexily. Yowza! Leaning toward viewer'), and whether the picture is color or monochrome (M or C). Then, I have 5 more columns for an 'X' to classify each picture, so I'll know if it's fanart, from a doujinshi, official art, a screen capture, or unknown.

318!!!

What do I do with these pictures, you ask?

Well, 165 of them are being used for my screen saver. I have this program that takes pictures from the folder you tell specify and displays them randomly for 15 seconds (That's the setting I put it at) and then flips to another picture.

Other than that, they just sit on my HD until I get the urge to look at pictures, or fiddle with some if it's official art type stuff. Or, if I need a story idea... Have a few pictures that I may base a story around... But, that's not till I get some of the stories I have in the works finished.

It keeps getting better... I also grabbed a bunch of Doujinshi page scans from miscellaneous websites (URLs for some Gundam Wing DJ pages are on my links page, here, if you want to see the scans for yourself.) just for the sole reason that one of the panels would make a really nice stand alone picture if it was cut out of the rest of the page. So, I used Paint Shop Pro (I'm getting really good at that program!) and fiddled with the pictures to get a single shot picture.

And, this is all for my own personal benefit. I'm not putting this pictures on the internet someplace, since I really didn't take the time to do the screen capture for myself, or scan in the art work, or draw the picture or anything like that. Hell, the only thing close that I could put up would be the DJ scans that I fiddled with... But, I'm not putting those up... I may have spent 5 minutes to half an hour (Man... that was a fun shot... </sarcasm> Doing a point by point selection to get the picture away from the background, then filling in the areas I removed with a background to match the rest of the shot... Almost gave up a few times!), but someone else took the time and effort to buy the doujinshi and then scan the page into the computer and put it on a webpage.

318!

Sometimes, my analness surprises me...

And to think, this only happens on my computer... I sure don't get like this on my house!

On a side note, I will put up a picture that I've manipulated if I know it's created using common screen captures and official art (like the one that's all ready on my page.)

I really need to buckle down and practice my drawing. (Also have a folder on my hard drive called 'Pictures to draw', with a list of pictures I will draw if I ever get time/get better at drawing.)

OK... Gundam Wing is done. I think I'm going to go do the same thing for Dragonball Z pictures!

Update, 5/19/00: It's up to 522... And some of the pictures I'm sorely tempted to play with... I think I will! Bwahahahaha! I have a coloring program, and I know how to use it! <cackles madly>

Update, 8/24/00: I'm over 1,000 pictures. <Staggers around in shock>. But, on the plus side, I now have a huge harddrive, so I no longer have to zip the pictures up and store them on a floptical disk. Lovely. In fact, the pictures are all now sorted in their own little folders.

I no longer do a screen print of the browse screen in Paint Shop Pro, since I can just hit browse for that... Oh, and now, I don't write descriptions for pictures much anymore (There's only so many times you can write "Duo grinning at viewer" before it gets tedious). Now, basically, the description field has the artist if it's fanart, the doujinshi the picture is from if I know, stuff like that.

And, I've started a 'picture grab' for my GW pictures (Link on my Gundam Wing fanpage index). Basically, I've got thumbnails and descriptions of all the GW pictures that I'm willing to hand out (Nothing that isn't common on the net or that I have explicit permission to post). I have to do something with them all! (Next, is DBZ pictures, which I'm dreading, since I think I have almost as many of them as Gundam Wing pictures... And, those thumbnails are not quick to make... Browse function on PSP, screen print, cut each little one out, save as a new picture.)

So, I'm still anal, I'm still weird, but it's grown in new directions...
