A "Guy Thing"??

Nuh uh!!

Breakthrough to cut cost of flat-screen TVs

I want one of these babies right next to my future DVD recorder. Gimme!

Men, the giant flat-screen TV of your dreams will get closer to affordable reality.

Motorola Inc. announced Tuesday that scientists at its labs in Tempe have developed a new process that could enable electronics manufacturers to produce large flat-panel displays for less than $1,000 in as little as two years.

The new process uses carbon nanotechnology, a hot, young field of research focused on tubes of carbon atoms less than one-billionth of a meter in diameter. What has researchers around the world excited is that carbon nanotubes are good at conducting electricity, good at withstanding high temperatures and can be made into fibers strong and light enough for spaceships.

..... Once prices come down, sales of large flat-screen TVs will soar, because those who see such TVs in stores today definitely salivate over them, O'Donnell said.

"Everyone knows about them and wants one and would buy one if it was less expensive," he said. "It's a guy thing."

Move over, guys! This girl is going to be first in line!
