How I got to know Jayne? Well, fate actually.
Started out with my son actually. He was buddy's with one of the
boys in elementary school. Little did I know that this "buddy" was
Jayne's nephew. During this time my show and fandom of choice was
from a show called Forever Knight. During this fandom I had the chance
to meet one of the lead actors and was watching the video from the event
I attended when this buddy of my son's was here, saw the video and said
"My aunt knows the actor who plays LaCroix! (Nigel Bennett)" Now,
if you know how Jayne is, kidding, joshing about at times, well...her nephew
is pretty much the same way. And well, he was a kid. And this
is Northwest Ohio after all. How many people do you know in this
area that "know" someone from a show you really liked at the time!
So, I more or less brushed it off and said, "Okie-dokie!"
It wasn't for another year or more that I would
actually come to believe what he was saying. Someing in this fandom
happened that was really upsetting. He (my son's friend), caught
on to the fact that I was very dissapointed. Again, he mentioned
that his Aunt Jayne knows the LaCroix guy and said I should get ahold of
her. At this point I said okay, you can give her my phone number
and have her call me.
Not really expecting a call a few days later
she did indeed call. Explained to me who she was, how my son's friend
was her nephew and how she was affiliated with Nigel Bennett (LaCroix).
It took a few more lessons for me to learn and for her to get a little
more comfortable with me before we could really get to know each other
better.Since then the friendship has been ever growing.
During this time I've had the opportunity to
terrorize the local coffee shops with Jayne and Bev. Go for rides
in the van to see the "pweety howiday wites" and rate the displays, good,
bad and downright shameful! :^) She's managed to make me say
and do things I might not otherwise have ever thought about doing.
Imp comes from my being intrigingly quiet. Another words, I may be
quiet but I have many shameful, nasty things I could do (but won't, I'm
too chicken).
She really pulled me out of my shell when I (not
knowingly), signed the dotted line and adopted me as one of her own.
From that day forward I have been helping out as one of Jayne's Charity
Zombies with Lights Camera Auction a charity auction sanctioned by the
Motion Picture Industry Charitable Alliance (M.P.I.C.A - http://www.mpica.org
), serving under Director Jon Cassar, Nigel Bennett, Jayne, and Renate
Johnston. Such duties have included, gopher, runner, mailer and accompanying
The War Dog - Gleb - Bev Apel at the computer table in the back.
It wasn't until this past year that I could actually
enjoy the fun of fandom again and wein myself away from the back table
to catch a few glances of the actors, directors, writers, etc., enjoying
the antics and the fun they were having. Although the auctions are
hard work, they are a labor of love. I'm hooked.
Now: More about me. This is a bio
after all. :^)
Not quite always an "Imp" I started life out
as the first girl after four boys on October 26th, 1963 in Los Angeles,
California. Therefore I would never really know the true meaning to a "normal"
life *<g>*. Yes, a sensative, passionate, don't piss me off Scorpio
kind of kid. At a very young age I moved from L.A. to other
areas around the country for very short periods of time (average time of
3 to 6 months), before settling into Northwest Ohio. Then a younger
sister came along and that's where the "Imp" in me started to develop even
further.
After settling in Ohio we moved a few more times
before my parent's had enough money to finally purchase a house of their
own. Even then, we couldn't move in for three months until my mom
worked 12 hour days on the house to make it liveable.
Schooling was somewhat odd for me. Because
of the moving us kids had atteneded some 4 different schools (in just one
city, mind you), by the time I was in the third grade. And if that's
not enough, it was during the transfers that the introduction fo "New Math"
to the cirriculim. Ugh!
Following in the footsteps of my brothers wasn't
always an easy task at school either. Trouble makers they were.
When it came time for me to attend classes the same teachers they had would
almost groan and say "not another O'Rourke!!!" Oh well! :^)
Little did they realize that I was the "quiet" one.
As school would go, I managed to make it through
highschool all the while experiencing some really intriguing outlets while
learning at the same time. One of those outlets would be theatrical
arts. I didn't play any important roles. Being an extra was
good enough for me. Just learning how they did all that neat stuff
was just fine. The make up, the lighting, the music, shenanigans,
etc. Wow! How exhilirating!
The other outlet would be music. That really
started for me in middle school. I first wanted to play the coronet
but I guess I just didn't like the funny feeling I got on my lips when
I was finished (*DON'T GO THERE!!! *<G>*), So, I wound up playing
the bass clarinet (b-flat). >From there I had to learn other instruments.
These would include: b-flat clarinet, b-flat tenor saxiphone, violin, piano,
baritone sax. In high school I wound up in marching, jazz and concert
band. Although the social aspect of it wasn't necessarily spectacular
(I was the quiet one, after all), I did enjoy the experiences I would never
forget.
"And then this one time...at band camp!"
Oh wait, that's from that movie about teenage boys. *<G>*
Yes, I did attend band camp for a week. One of the best things I
ever did. Anymore when I watch movies like "Indian Summer", etc.,
I tend to have wonderful flashbacks to the time I went ('79-'80).
That was also during the time of the "Iranian Hostage Crises". I
guess the theme of our camp was a band held hostage. There was even
a picture of one of the camp counselours on a tractor with a straw hat
on and mask over his face behind the band for our official "Camp Picture".
Otherwise, it was great fun. The toilet paper and shaving cream raids
we did on the boys cabins and the boys doing the "panty raids" (to which
some got into heaps of trouble), were definatly the highlights of the trip.
:^)
Another trip would include going to Hershey Pennsylvania
for a National band competition. It was hard work but we also got
to enjoy Hershey Park. We wound up taking first place <whoo-hoo>
in our class. The only bad part was running out of money half way
home. A Hershey bar just doesn't cut it for a meal on the road.
<cringe>.
It's now been some...well, sheesh, more than
20 years since that experience and I've been married for 17 years.
I have two offspring. My son Daniel is 16 1/2, attends high school
and is hoping to advance to college in applied graphics. My daughter,
Krista is 13 1/2, attends junior high and would someday like to be a teacher.
Teachers run in my husbands family (I forgot to mention that my husband's
aunt was my 7th grade math teache. Didn't find that out until we
were engaged. The bad part of this is that we used to call her "Killer
Keller". <cringe>). Anyways, his aunt is a teacher, his cousin
(aunts daughter), is a teacher and his sister's a teacher as well.
Guess it's in the blood!
During these 20 years I've held odd jobs here
and there. I started as a cashire at a convenience store, an attendant
at a laundrymat, cashire and nursery worker for a local garden and landscape
center. From there I saved up money to attend schooling for a degree
in travel. Guess that stems from moving around so much as a kid and
hanging out with my dad and brother at airports spotting planes.
Flying and travel always intrigued me. I finished that course and
did intern time for a local agency for about 6 months. Took some
leave for some psychical problems, recovered and then continued on to persue
a career in the airline industry. Yes, a career. I absolutly
*LOVED* that job. And like any job, it has it's downside but I got
to do what I always wanted to do. That was my dream as a child...to
work and play with the planes, help and meet people from different cultures,
all walks of life. But, the career sadly ended for reasons I can't
really go into at this time. Perhaps an update. It's still
too hard to talk about.
Othewise I've traveled quite a bit around North
America. L.A. and back a few different times, Toronto, Ontario every
year for the past 15 years. There's just something about that place.
Various areas of Nova Scotia to visit friends I've since made during prior
ventures there. Nassau Bahamas for a three day get away. And
many other trips out of town during my stint at the airlines serving as
a trainer of personelle for new stations opening.
Now more currently I'm just a "Domestic Goddess"
ruling over the household, raising the kids and restoring my 82 year old
house.
Well, that's my bio for now. I know there's
alot more to it but I haven't found anyone who want's to sign a contract
for the fuller version! *<G>*
